Happy Fall

Happy first weekend of fall. Doesn't feel like fall around these parts, but we will enjoy our weekend just the same. Don't you wish this was your driveway, or a road leading to a very special place?

I imagine that at the end of the dirt road is a small rust colored cabin with pumpkins on the brick steps, and a beautiful wreath of the door. There is of course a pond out back with a small boat pulled up on the bank. The windows of the cabin are open (because there is 0% humidity in my imaginary place!) and I smell pumpkin chocolate chip cookies in the oven.

Leave a vivid comment about what you imagine is at the end of this dirt road for extra credit in writing!

Somewhere over the rainbow

We studied our spelling words this week using the rainbow method. Tons of fun and really colorful. All you need is a three to five colored pencils (different colors), your spelling words, and some paper. Write on top of each other so that you practice the spelling, and look what you get. A rainbow of colors! Good luck on your spelling test tomorrow.

Another crazy balloon experiment

My students shared their at home science projects today. They were great! I love when children find science to be fun. It usually just takes some playing! Here is one student with a great balloon trick. All it takes is a balloon, some liquid dish soap, and a skewer. He lathered the skewer with soap, then blew up the balloon, and put a dab of soap on the bottom and top on the balloon. After making our observations, we formed a hypothesis. We were split on what was going to happen. Guess what...the balloon didn't pop! Research why and leave a comment for extra credit.

Hey Thomas, we miss you! We were heading out to recess the other day and wanted to say hi! We hear that you are also trying to get out and exercise. We hope you are enjoying some of these cooler temperatures. Thanks for your cool thank you note!

Magic Balloon

Friday afternoon we squeezed in a quick, but fun science experiment. We called it magic balloon, but there is nothing magic about it. It's purely science! With a mixture of baking soda and vinegar we were able to watch our bright green balloons inflate before our eyes. If you haven't tried this easy experiment at home, give it a shot. Leave a comment if you know why the balloon inflates. Remember Houdini has nothing to do with it!

Thomas Time

This year our class is very fortunate to be full of 23 unique and special kids. One of them happens to be Thomas. We were lucky enough to have him for the first day of school, but he will need to spend some time away from school to work on getting strong and healthy. Thomas does not want to be away, and we don't want him to miss a thing. So we will dedicate some time on our blog as often as possible to Thomas. Thomas, we are thinking about you often. Sending you lots of rays of sunshine and we hope you enjoy seeing us! We will see you soon!! Love, Your Class
