These are a few of my favorite things...

Sorry for the delay in updates. Mack-a-roni had a monstrous fever Thursday through Saturday. He is on the road to recovery. Now, I am on the road to being a bit teary eyed over only having four more days with my 5th graders. This is the time of year that I get weepy and wish that I had a bit more time to mold them, listen to them, laugh with them, dream with them, etc. But listen, they are READY to leave the nest. They are not weepy at all!

So what are a few of my favorite things? For one, I love when our little baby 5th grade birds do fly the nest and go from good to great. Here is a shining example of four young men (8th graders to be exact) that are wonderful examples of adolescence. I can say this because I don't live with them. Their parents and siblings might have different opinions at times. These boys, Christian, Wil, Max, and Jarrod (leisurely laying across the front) came back last week for a game of kickball. This is our 4th annual Kick for a Cause game in honor of Wil and Jarrod's mom Brenda. I hate to say that she lost her battle to cancer when the boys were in 5th grade, because she didn't lose. She fought a great fight. Inspired others a long the way, and helped to raise (with a great partner in Roger) two fine boys who are now young men. She was witty, generous, intelligent, and just plain good at being a mom. Our kickball games raised over $500 for the Luca Family Endowment at TMH.

On a less serious note, I also favor candy. We had a interesting day last week. The students earned the right to choose their schedule for the day. We had a pet show and tell, a walk to Market Square for lunch, and a candy shop in our room.

Of course this wad of goodness is my FAVORITE thing! He is trying so hard to crawl. Cheer him on!

Olympic Spirit

Look at these Bermudians...

The 90 plus degree heat could not melt our Olympic spirit on Friday as we competing in our annual field day games. It was HOT, but a lot of fun. Here are some pictures of the activities. Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping out!

Kids helping kids

We are obviously all still in shock over the pure devastation that took place three weeks ago across the southeast as violent tornadoes ripped through towns and left so many hopeless. Our school leaders in Student Council rallied together to collect gift cards for major chain stores for children at University Place Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I couldn't be more proud of our students and families for collecting more than $700 worth of gift cards in a very short period of time. We asked our school to make handmade cards of hope to send as well, and they didn't disappoint. The icing on the cake was when our friends at Raa Middle School joined in on the generosity bandwagon and collected over $300 worth of gift cards. We are excited to send these small tokens of love to our neighbors in Alabama. I know it seems that we can't catch our breath before the next natural or man made disaster, but it's always reassuring to know that others will lend a hand in a time of need.

Sea World Tomorrow!

I had to change the background in honor of our trip to Sea World tomorrow. There are absolutely NOOOOO bathing suits allowed on my fifth graders tomorrow, but these cute swimsuits make me think of the sea. Then that gets me thinking of summer vacation. Oh just eight more full days of school, and then a few half days thrown in there! What do you have planned for summertime?
