Happy President's Day Thomas!

Our friend and classmate Thomas is receiving some additional treatment and we are praying so hard for this sweet boy's body to heal. We miss him, and couldn't celebrate President's Day without him. Here is a little Thomas Time for you!!

Have a heart

Today we have focused on all things heart related. Not just candy hearts, but real human hearts too! We met with our science buddies to complete a pulse experiment, and IPad scavenger hunt, and of course some sweet treats. Later in the day we did a virtual heart transplant surgery here and saw what Bill Nye had to say about hearts.

The Common Good

In social studies my students have been learning a lot about the concept of "common good". They embarked on a project that was three fold. They researched a local, national, or international charity or organization. They compiled a PSA (public service announcement), brochure, or poster to publicize the organization's mission. The final step is to actual get out and volunteer. They have done a great job so far!

Kaya took it a step further and directed her own PSA at the animal shelter.

I Spy

It's weird to think that the world is full of spies, isn't it? Well we've been reading about a famous African-American spy that helped to change the course of the American Revolution. His name was James Armistead, who later changed his name to James Lafayette. He is an interesting dude!

His actions have raised A LOT of questions from my inquisitive little children. Which is a good thing! Espionage is confusing and cool at the same time! If you want to learn more about the mysterious world of spying check out the International Spy Museum . Spies travel around the world eavesdropping, so you should also be a geography whiz.
