The British are Coming!

The journey begins tomorrow as we learn more about the American legend or folklore behind Paul Revere. Here are a few things we already know...

There is a poem written by this famous American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, that has something to do with Mr. Revere.


The poem and history don't quite match up. Here are some of the routes taken that evening.


Oh and Paul Revere looks JUST like Jack Black!


We're hoping to add a little more information to our file on Paul Revere. We've been talking about him for hundreds of years, so something must be worth knowing!

A Thrill Ride

My young scientists were given the task of creating roller coasters today. They thought it was an easy task, until they got started. We've been learning about energy in motion. The ups and downs (get it?) of potential and kinetic energy. We know that potential is stored energy, and kinetic is the energy caused by motion. So with a little bit of tubing, a marble, and some tape, students got busy.

Apples and oranges

We started off the week learning about least common multiples and least common denominators. Tomorrow during math we will learn how to use the LCD to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (apples and oranges). For extra credit leave a comment and either tell us in your own words how to find the LCD of two or more fractions or find a cool website (and post the site) that lets you practice this skill.

Backyard brain busters

We settled back into things with just two days of school before the weekend. The best part was that we got to welcome our classmate Thomas back with some festivities!

Tate is saying, "Oh my gosh I forgot how much I LOVE school!"

Welcome Back Thomas!

Happy New Year! We are only two days into 2012 and we have a lot to be happy about. This is hands down the best blog post I've ever been able to write. I just got word that Thomas will be rejoining our class with a clean bill of health on Thursday. Thank you God! Thank you for a healthy and happy boy who is actually excited about returning to school! As a teacher there are times that I will always remember in and out of the classroom, but this is so special and memorable for myself and my students. Thomas has taught us to be compassionate, to not sweat the small stuff, to be encouraging, to be humorous, to set goals and achieve them, to relish in the kindness of others, to be uplifting, to be a sport, and most importantly to have faith. I'm am so proud of him as a student, classmate, and person.
