Kids helping kids

We are obviously all still in shock over the pure devastation that took place three weeks ago across the southeast as violent tornadoes ripped through towns and left so many hopeless. Our school leaders in Student Council rallied together to collect gift cards for major chain stores for children at University Place Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I couldn't be more proud of our students and families for collecting more than $700 worth of gift cards in a very short period of time. We asked our school to make handmade cards of hope to send as well, and they didn't disappoint. The icing on the cake was when our friends at Raa Middle School joined in on the generosity bandwagon and collected over $300 worth of gift cards. We are excited to send these small tokens of love to our neighbors in Alabama. I know it seems that we can't catch our breath before the next natural or man made disaster, but it's always reassuring to know that others will lend a hand in a time of need.

Sea World Tomorrow!

I had to change the background in honor of our trip to Sea World tomorrow. There are absolutely NOOOOO bathing suits allowed on my fifth graders tomorrow, but these cute swimsuits make me think of the sea. Then that gets me thinking of summer vacation. Oh just eight more full days of school, and then a few half days thrown in there! What do you have planned for summertime?

A trip around the world

May is a crazy time of year around an elementary school. Actually, every month is a crazy time of year. By crazy I mean tons of great field trips, activities, presentations, lessons, experiments. The list goes on. Last week my students finished up their Around the World project with presentations and an delicious global potluck lunch. I was shocked and stuffed by the end of the day. They did a fabulous job!

Take a look at some of the yummy authentic dishes.
