On the hunt

My math students this week are on the hunt around campus for some geometric shapes. They are looking for triangular prisms, cylinders, planes, and more. They have been sent out to photograph these shapes and geometric concepts. Next step is to mix their knowledge with their creativity! Student groups will be producing slideshows of their findings. Should be interesting!!

Invention Convention

We've kicked off our annual 5th grade Invention Convention. The beginning steps are to look at the world around us and think of problems and solutions. We are also researching famous inventions and who was/is the mastermind behind them. Click here to research some of these amazing and useful creations!

Proud of my boys!

Christopher, Bennett, and Hunter were honored recently during their Boy Scout Honor of Light Graduation ceremony. I'm proud of their dedication to becoming better citizens and role models!

So what do carrots, flowers, and eggs have to do with Easter?

I'm not sure the answer to this. You could ask Hannah in our class since she reached out to clergy at her church about this mind boggling question. In our class we are researching lots of different Earth friendly things this week. Today we made carrots, flowers, and eggs using lines of symmetry and researched how these three things benefit our environment. Anywhere from pollination, to photosynthesis, to being a integral part of a food web.

Here is what Mack has to say about it...

Water on Earth

So lovely...

This week we reviewed the importance of this...

Don't you wish you were here?

So glad I'm here though...(look at that chub)

We've spent some time this week learning about the water on our planet Earth. Most of us know that around 75% of the Earth is covered by water. But did you know that only 3/100 of it is freshwater? That's why your mama tells you to turn the water off!! With Earth Day just around the corner it is important for us to remember how precious our water resources are. I know I enjoy clean drinking water, a nice hot shower, and a clean ocean to swim in. How easily without our conservation could this all slip away?
